After a few packed days in the Bay Area, Santa Cruz gave us a chance to catch our breath and catch a few rays, because hey, solar panels can’t have all the fun. Our gracious hostesses, Michelle and Faye, put us up for two nights in their pad, just a short walk from the beach and downtown. We even discovered Eddie Money was performing that first night, but we decided not to go when we found out he wasn’t really the musical genius behind “Tempted by the Fruit of Another” (if you know who actually did that song, send us an email). Instead, Crank discovered Ricochet, his ideal beverage, whilst the girls promised a big surprise. We were relieved to find out the surprise was Susan Gordon ’06 (you never can trust those girls), who had just moved to San Francisco to start her new job and came down to visit. We all caught up for the evening at the local 007 Bar, where we held down the shuffleboard table until closing time.
The next day was a day for upkeep: using free wi-fi courtesy of Java Junction to add more cool stuff to the website, cleaning out our home, and making an attempt to change the brake pads (“We’re gonna need a bigger wrench”). That night we cruised down to the hub of Santa Cruz nightlife, AKA the Boardwalk. Zabel lost his rollercoaster virginity to the Big Dipper, which we all went on at least once. But if you’re looking for the most G-force for your money, I’d recommend the Fireball.
Santa Cruz, we leave you with sea salt still stuck in our windswept hair, our skin looking as red as our crushed Ricochet cans, and thinking to ourselves, you can bet we’ll be back some day.
