At Clif Bar & Company, we understand that our health depends on the planet's wellbeing. That's why we're working to reduce our environmental impact in everything we do, from the field to the final product. Our journey began in 2001 with sourcing organic ingredients and we have since expanded our program to include recycled materials for packaging, biodiesel in our company fleet, and a growing climate action program that includes incentives for employees and the development of new wind farms to reduce our carbon footprint. We continue to learn from and share the journey with others. Here are a few examples of our progress: 70% of all ingredients are now organic, 13,000 trees planted with American Forests, 3 wind turbines up and running thanks to our partnership with NativeEnergy, and B100 biodiesel fuel is now used for 20,000 miles of inter-company shipping.

Shoreline has been making bags since 1995. In 2007, the Company’s owners committed to only making bags from green materials by the end of 2008. Bottles 2 Bags represents the first step in this transition. The fabrics in the Bottles 2 Bags items are made from 100% recycled water and soda bottles (PET #1). By utilizing a recycled resource, these fabrics use less energy to be manufactured as well as keeping bottles out of landfills.
Each Bottles 2 Bags product has an internal label that identifies the number of bottles that were recycled to create the bag and the energy saved in production. The company website www.act2greensmart.com explains the production method and provides a GreenSmart Glossary to enhance anyone’s understanding of green. |
