In our fourth summer on the
road, the Big Green Bus educates Americans about climate
change and it’s relationship to energy issues, as well
as alternative energy. We promote the adoption of lifestyle
choices that conserve energy and take us farther down the
path towards sustainability.
As
we travel 13,000 miles around the country through 36 states,
we will spark a dialogue about sustainable living, the viability
of alternative energy sources, and tangible solutions to
local and global energy issues with those we meet
along the way.
Our target audience is American
consumers: the high school and college students, politicians,
corporate leaders, families, and others whose choices determine
our environmental impacts — and
who have the ability to empower change in their communities
and to reform our nation's relationship to energy and resource
use.
The ultimate goal of the Big Green Bus
is both simple and transformative. Through education and example,
we seek to inspire Americans to reconsider their relationship
to the planet and with each other to become more environmentally
responsible citizens at home, at work, and in the voting booth.
Trip Objectives
We will use the Big Green Bus as a focal
point for promoting high-profile media attention in the communities
we visit in an effort to spark a national dialogue.
We will combine the energy and enthusiasm
of a motivated grassroots campaign with the resources and power
of major corporations who are willing to incorporate sustainable
business practices to inspire others to rethink how their choices
and actions impact the environment.
We will meet with elected officials
and political candidates to create dialogue and demonstrate the
importance of environmental issues to voters and consumers during
the 2008 election cycle.
We will visit more than fifteen places of public learning
to teach Americans about climate change, alternative energy,
and conservation options.
We will visit alternative energy production
facilities, such as wind and solar farms, in order to familiarize
our audience and ourselves with the reality of alternative fuels.
We will meet with mayors and city planners to learn about
local solutions to energy issues and then spread effective
practices to other cities along our route.
We will encourage Americans of every
political stripe to communicate their concern about climate change
and energy issues to their representatives at every level of
government.
We will learn about the challenges presented by climate
change – and opportunities for progress – from
the environmental leaders that confront the problem every
day.
We will include quantifiable goals that
will allow us to measure our impact, such as website hits, audience
counts, pledge counts, letter counts, and a Carbon calculator.
We will maintain a website with photos,
journal updates, an interactive map, and vodcasts to document
our progress and increase audience accessibility.
We will commit ourselves to living sustainably,
as an example for our audience.
